Police want them to...
Police want them to help by monitoring the two or three streets they use every day in a bid to put the authorities a step ahead of the villains.
A gaping hole above...
A gaping hole above the grille is evident in the mag"s pictures and it"s there to feed air into the supercharger, which is mated to the 4.2-litre V8 to raise power to around 400bhp. This will enable the car to sprint from 0-60mph in five seconds and go on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
The XKR will also be identified by its stubby exhaust pipes. Meanwhile, underneath the plastic cladding, a subtle bodykit will give the performance model a more aggressive look to help differentiate it from lesser models. It rides on wider wheels and features a beefed-up braking system, while the suspension is enhanced for improved cornering and a sportier ride.
Priced from around í‚á£65,000, the XKR is likely to arrive in the UK in early 2007. A convertible will follow in summer for an extra í‚á£5,000. But if you can"t wait until then, a naturally aspirated 300bhp version of the drop-top will be available a year earlier.
That car was being tested alongside the XKR, and we managed to get its rear on film for the first time, too. The test model shows the benefit of the decision to use a fabric hood rather than a folding hard-top. As less space is required to store the roof, designers have been able to give the car a sleek rump. The XK8 convertible will debut at January"s Detroit Motor Show, and cost from around í‚á£60,000 when it goes on sale here.
