Active Driving Assist...

Active Driving Assist (ADA) uses two forward-facing cameras and radar to detect hazards in the road ahead. It can even apply the brakes in an emergency situation. The set-up is only a concept at present, but the technology looks set to join the line-up on future models.

It incorporates radar-operated cruise control and a driver fatigue avoidance system that monitors the car"s position within its lane. This sounds an alarm if it crosses the centre line into oncoming traffic.

The firm"s groundbreaking 2.0-litre diesel is set to arrive next February in the Legacy and Outback. The unit is claimed to offer superb performance and refinement, while the location of the turbo alongside the catalytic converter ensures fast warm-up, resulting in reduced emissions.
