Although Vauxhall is...

Although Vauxhall is denying responsibility for problems with Stuartò€™s Corsa, the Luton firm has already had one handbrake-related recall this year. Announced in April, it covers the Vectra and all Signums.

A staggering 230,000 vehicles were affected at launch. And a report on the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) website says: ò€œFollowing a small number of complaints of vehicles rolling away due to allegedly defective handbrakes, Vauxhall engineers have conducted rigorous testing and found that provided the handbrake is applied correctly, without depressing the release button, [it] is perfectly safe.ò€

However, that didnò€™t stop the Luton firm issuing the recall. Vehicles are being fitted with a modified handbrake mechanism to reduce the possibility of a partial release ò€“ so, is the same needed on the Corsa? Vauxhall says not, but Stuart Mainwaring thinks otherwise. Visit www.vosa.gov.uk for more details about recalls.
