The driver survey conducted by insurer Privilege showed that 1 in 5 motorists are likely to try to share their journey, and that those in favour of the lanes outnumber those against 2 to 1, with nearly half of all motorists in favour.

Interestingly, there are still some gaps which could leave parking firm bosses tongue-tied. For example, there are no Italian phrases listed for traffic warden, offence or fixed penalty notice.

Audi’s new A4...

Audi’s new A4 will cost from ?22,590 to ?30,290 when it arrives in spring. Engines range from a new 158bhp 1.8-litre TSI to a 261bhp 3.2-litre V6 petrol unit. There are three diesels: a 141bhp 2.0, 187bhp 2.7 and a 236bhp 3.0-litre. The restyled A4 is packed with technology including Audi Drive Select, which continually adapts the ride to road conditions.
