It"s often thought that the term "station wagon" originated in the US to name the large, boxy cars used to ferry guests from railroad stations to hotels. They were usually home-made affairs, but in 1928, Ford was the first firm to offer a "station wagon" as part of its Model A line-up. However, similar passenger-carrying vehicles had been in use in the early 20th century on Australian farms, which were often called "sheep stations", hence the name station wagon.

The study, commissioned by Primary1.co.uk and carried out by Cardiff University, revealed that peppermint, citrus and lavender scents have the most pronounced effect on motorists. If you have trouble concentrating at the wheel, lemon is a good choice to wake you up, and lavender can help to calm you if you"re stressed.

But the restyled front...

But the restyled front end isn"t the only change that"s been made to the car. For the first time ever, the model will be available in quattro S line trim. There are also new colours and alloy wheels on offer - which feature inserts the same shape as the grille

- as well as the option of soft nappa leather covers for the sports seats.

Under the skin, the sports suspension has been revised, and now offers a more comfortable ride, while updated ESP stability control ensures this is one of the safest hatchbacks on the road. Prices, engine choices and specifications will remain largely unchanged.

The revamped A3 is available to order in showrooms now, and should be ready for delivery by late summer.
