Called the Coupé...

Called the Coupé Concept, the stylish BMW 3-Series rival debuted at the Detroit Motor Show, and shows how the forthcoming G35 coupé will look.

But the big news is that while it"s only intended for the US market at the moment, it could go on sale in the UK within three years. Likely to be the second Infiniti model to arrive, it will follow the launch of the FX45 SUV - a Lexus RX300-style off-roader that should go on sale in two years" time.

While the polished metal bodywork won"t make it to showrooms, the G35 concept is virtually ready for sale. Featuring sweeping lines and a full-length glass roof, it should attract style-conscious buyers. There"s also a host of neat technical innovations, including rear view cameras instead of driving mirrors, and a curved dashboard lit in violet. Although bosses are tight-lipped about the likely engine, the production car is believed to have an uprated version of the 3.5-litre V6 that powers the 350Z. It will be mated to either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox, driving the rear wheels.

Range-topping versions will feature four-wheel drive and sports suspension, while all models will have a profiled undertray that channels air under the car to help increase stability. Expect the production car to cost around ,000 (÷£21,000) in the US.
