Built with the backing...

Built with the backing of Audi, the hardcore road-legal machine was orig÷inally tipped to wear the famous four-ringed badge. But instead, it will cash in on the thrill-seeking image of the Austrian motorbike specialist. Under the bonnet is the 2.0-litre TFSI turbocharged powerplant used in Audi"s S3. This drives the rear wheels, and with the KTM tipping the scales at less than 700kg, it promises a 0-62mph sprint time of under four seconds.

Centre-stage are these...

Centre-stage are these reincarnations of Ford"s Shelby Mustang, the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger. The production version of the Mustang, the Shelby Cobra GT500, will draw plenty of attention when it appears in coupé and convertible forms. The 5.4-litre V8 model has 450bhp, and is set apart from standard variants by white stripes and a deep front bumper.

Chevrolet"s US designers have taken a similarly aggressive approach with the modern-day version of the Camaro. Powered by a 400bhp 6.0-litre V8 engine, the car features a six-speed manual gearbox and delivers tyre-shredding performance.

In addition, it boasts a cylinder shutdown facility which allows frugal cruising, with economy claimed to better 30mpg.

And Dodge has also looked to the past for inspiration. The Challenger concept is based on the same platform as the 300C saloon, and has an awesome 419bhp 6.1-litre HEMI V8 under the bonnet.
