Dacia has chosen the...

Dacia has chosen the Barcelona Motor Show to unveil a new sportier looking version of its Sandero, and theyņ€™ve called it the Stepway. Based on the hatchback of the same name, the latest car from the low-cost Romanian firm has been labelled a more adventurous version of the hatchback which is currently on sale in Europe.

With a modified design aimed at the younger market, the Stepwayņ€™s has a few slight differences to its hatchback sibling. Thanks to raised ground clearance, satin-finished chrome front and rear skid-plates and sills plus, roofbars and an exhaust finished in chrome, the new Stepway does makes more of an impression than the current car.

Itņ€™s a similar story under the bonnet too. Depending on the market, the Stepway will be available with two new engines. The first is a 90bhp 1.6-litre petrol unit, while the second will be an eco-friendly 70bhp dCi 70. With the diesel option sipping only 53mpg and emitting 140g/km of C02. But the Stepway will remain front-wheel-drive.

Dacia has also confirmed the Stepway will receive the Ambiance trim level, so as well as good levels of comfort and plenty of space, features like electric windows, 16ņ€¯ alloy-wheels, central locking and folding rear seats will all come as standard. Plus, the Stepwayņ€™s higher road clearance means you can expect a raised and improved driving position.

Expected to reach European showrooms this September, Dacia still hasnņ€™t confirmed if the either new Stepway or current Sandero hatchback will make it to the UK anytime soon.
