Faulty cement could have been used in as many as 11 Highways Agency road projects. Certain batches were found to have higher than stated alkali levels, which in extreme cases can cause structures to crack. However, there are no immediate safety concerns and all the sites identified are being closely monitored. Some bridges, plus parapet and gantry bases, have been built with the cement.
