First to arrive next...

First to arrive next spring is a new Nissan Note rival. Called the Coo in Japan, the newcomer is based on a lengthened version of the latest Sirion platform, and will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September.

It"s not yet known what badges the UK versions are to wear, but the spacious five-door will also attempt to steal sales from the Honda Jazz. Inside, there"s room for five, and the dash design promises to be the most advanced in the Daihatsu range. Also due for launch early next year is the new Charade. The city car will be going green with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine producing less than 100g/km of CO2, making it exempt from road fund licence charges.

A spokesman told Auto Express: "The next Charade will be more roun÷ded than the existing car, with a more defined shape." It"s set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The final addition to the range is to appear next summer before going on sale towards the end of 2007. It will be a five-door Peugeot 307 hatch-back rival, based on an all-new platform - and represents new territory for the Japanese company.
