As you can see in the mag, designers will keep the transition from coup탩 to cabriolet simple, retaining the GT"s elegant lines and distinctive rear-end styling. Unlike some rivals, the Alfa won"t have a folding hard-top, as bosses have opted for a conventional electrically operated fabric hood. This will give the car a more compact mechanism, allowing the shape and impressive practicality of the hard-top two-door to be preserved.

Called Virtual Cable, the latest kit projects a guiding line above the road in front of you. By using a special head-up display (HUD), the unit replaces the traditional arrows and graphics with a simple ‘cable’ which appears suspended in mid-air.

Ford is launching a...

Ford is launching a two-pronged attack with its new Galaxy - which de-buted in concept form at September"s Frankfurt Motor Show - and the smaller, sportier SAV. To answer this threat, the Espace is expected to feature a range of new features, and be available in both five and seven-seat formats.

The all-new model has striking looks, with a large Renault diamond logo dom-inating the nose. It will sit between prominent front wings, which continue the flowing lines of the steeply raked windscreen pillars. As with the Fords, the Espace will get conventional hinged - rather than sliding - rear doors.

The cabin should be as airy as the current model"s, thanks to the familiar glass roof, while the dash and interior design is expected to follow the existing car"s minimalist lines. The chunky people carrier is also tipped to feature some familiar trademarks, such as the two-piece roof rack. When not in use, its pair of bars slide along the rails set in the roof to form a stylish rear spoiler. Potential buyers face a long wait for the next Espace, though. A revised version of the current car is expected next year, so the newcomer is unlikely to arrive in British showrooms until 2008.
