Glasgow City Council...

Glasgow City Council is lobbying the Scottish Executive to introduce fees for parking at work, entertainment venues and out-of-town shopping centres. Supporters claim it is fairer than road pricing, while opponents say it will damage the economy.

“The result could be a switch away from the use of private cars, reducing congestion, emissions and global warming,” explained the council’s Ruth Simpson. A Scottish Executive spokesman said ministers are considering the proposals.
