Honda has given us a glimpse of things to come from its next generation Accord.

You can see the newcomer on video here – but here we can reveal a full selection of revealing images.

As the pictures reveal, the existing model’s vertical tailgate has been axed in favour of a much sportier, tap-ered rear end. However, this is likely to compromise load space compared to the outgoing design, which was among the load-carrying class leaders.

The new Accord is an evolution of the current car at the front, with smartly styled angular headlamps and an arrowhead-shaped chrome grille. A sharp crease runs along the flanks, while there’s a diffuser-style bumper at the back. Other neat details include a pair of satin-finished roof rails and a spoiler above the rear windscreen.

The Accord will be the first car in the line-up to benefit from Honda’s latest i-DTEC diesel, which debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show last year.

This 2.2-litre unit produces 150bhp, and meets strict new Euro V emissions regulations. With 340Nm of torque, it promises punchy performance, while it could even top 60mpg economy. A ‘super-clean’ i-DTEC, which exceeds Euro VI rules, is also on the way, and should appear within three years.

The all-new Accord saloon arrives here in June, with the load-lugging Tourer following in September.

See Honda"s official teaser video here.
