While the Volvo"s nose...

While the Volvo"s nose is carried over directly from the saloon, the complex coup탩-cabriolet mechanism has forced engineers to make some styling changes at the rear. The cabin will offer more space for back seat passengers than many rivals. The new model will be unveiled for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but won"t go on sale in the UK until February next year.

Our picture shows how...

Our picture shows how the undisguised V10 hybrid prototype coup탩 will look. If the company, based in Daventry, Northants, can secure funding, the 2+2 will go on sale next year costing around í‚á£35,000. A spokeswoman said: "We are in discussions with interested parties at the moment." The 2.1-litre petrol powerplant was designed in-house, and works in tandem with an electric motor to provide 188bhp. The engine has already undergone independent testing at Millbrook Proving Ground, Bedfordshire, where insiders tell us it exceeded Connaught"s expectations.

In-ear hands-free kits...

In-ear hands-free kits make using your phone in the car simple, but not everyone finds them comfortable. However, there are a number of solutions ò€“ and the latest is the new T505 from Motorola.

It can be mounted on the visor, dashboard or windscreen ò€“ although we found the latter application difficult to set up and the mount cheap.

The unit looks good, though, with a warm, grey soft-touch finish and discreetly labelled buttons. Once fitted to the visor, it held fast and was intuitive to use, although some buttons required a firm press. It can be charged from the 12V power outlet, but the cord got in the way when we charged it on the visor. Call quality wasnò€™t great, with intrusive background noise and some distortion. The FM transmitter worked well, with spoken station readings so you knew which frequency to tune into. However ò€“ like other FM transmitting devices ò€“ in busy city centres it suffered from radio reception problems.
