It"s cash for scrap!...

It"s cash for scrap! The Government has hinted it will give the green light to a revolutionary scheme that will see owners get ÷£2,000 off the price of a new car if they agree to scrap their old one.÷

Likely to be announced in the April budget, the scheme is designed to stimulate new car sales and get older, more polluting models off the road. It would apply to cars at least nine years old with owners able to get up to a ÷£2,000 tax-funded discount off a new car or a

nearly-new car that is less than one year old.

The Government is studying similar successful schemes already in use in Germany and Italy. If applied to the UK car market, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) estimates that the scheme could boost the industry by up to 250,000 sales.

The move comes after months of pressure by car makers who are experiencing sliding new car sales.
