Police want them to help by monitoring the two or three streets they use every day in a bid to put the authorities a step ahead of the villains.

It"s a novel idea by Berkshire officers, who are looking for residents to be more "pro-active" with their Neighbourhood Watch. Inspector Michael Squire, of Thames Valley Police, said: "If we can mobilise about 50 people, they can check more than 100 streets for suspicious vehicles."
