Pumping out 750bhp from...

Pumping out 750bhp from its V12 powerplant, the Zonda R has been specifically designed and built for track use only, and is set to rival the likes of the Maserati MC12 and the Ferrari FXX.

Pagani has taken the "standard" Zonda F and given it a new, 40cm longer and 5cm wider aerodynamic carbon fibre body. It barely scrapes the tarmac, while a vast rear wing helps create downforce at speed.

Power comes from a special version of Zonda"s familiar Mercedes-sourced 7.3-litre engine. Delivering 710Nm of torque and with a new six-speed sequential gearbox, it is expected to sprint from 0-60mph in around 3.5 seconds and achieve a top speed in excess of 240mph.

Lowered and stiffened suspension with an upgraded braking system and new alloy wheels complete the considerable dynamic changes for the ultimate Zonda.

However, unlike Lamborghini"s Superleggera, the R is no stripped-out, bare-bones racer, as it has bespoke racing seats and a high-specification stereo.

When it goes on sale later this year, the Zonda R will cost around ÷£800,000 - as much as the 250mph, V16-engined Bugatti Veyron.
