And if you thought Christmas was expensive, your wallet is in for another battering. Shopping experts say the average family splashed out í‚á£375 on gifts in December, but the RAC has worked out we spent another í‚á£447 on the car at the same time. Yet we"ll do it again this month and every other one! This means the average annual cost of running a vehicle now stands at í‚á£5,368, the highest figure for more than a year.

Ever since the Japanese maker took the wraps off the striking Civic Concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March, excitement about the car"s impending launch has been building. Many thought Honda would never put such a daring-looking model into production, but when the official pictures were released in August, barely a detail had changed.

Japanese firm Nissan...

Japanese firm Nissan could find itself under the spotlight of US courts over its headlamps. It is being sued by authorities in New Jersey, who allege it didn"t warn customers that the Maxima"s xenons were sought after by thieves. The lawsuit claims Nissan profited from repairs and owners having to buy anti-theft kits at dealers.

Renault is charging...

Renault is charging towards an electric future! The latest teaser image from the French car maker previews four zero emissions concept cars that will be showcased at next week"s Frankfurt Motor Show.

Ranging in size from a small, two seater city car to a full size family saloon, these concepts represent Renault"s first step into the fully electric car market. Although details are scarce the teaser image reveals an array of photovoltaic cells on the roof of three of the vehicles which will gather enegy to charge the battery.

In an attempt to boost range the concepts will feature a lightweight construction and a low drag design. Speculation drawn from the teaser reveals that on some models the traditional high-drag wing-mirrors will be replaced with small video cameras.

More details and official pictures will be announced as the Frankfurt Motor Show gets under way but don"t expect to see these cars entering production until about 2011.
