Scrapping old tyres...

Scrapping old tyres might not be such a bad idea after all. A joint venture between Michelin and Lafarge Cement has led to the creation of RTG50, a synthetic material made from crushed tyres.

Once treated, it can be used on landfill sites as a drainage layer for waste water. Worn tyres are a problem for the motor industry as they are no longer allowed to be buried - even when shredded.
