The IS takes on the styling themes from the recently revealed GS, with heavily sculpted features and a muscular stance. It retains the feel of a sports saloon thanks to a long nose and short rear overhang. The Lexus grille is smaller than on the current model, but its shape is echoed in the creases running up the bonnet and it"s framed by a pair of piercing headlights.

Second-hand vehicle sup÷ermarket Motorpoint is pioneering the move with an innovative new tracking scheme called Pinpoint.

Drivers send a text to locate their vehicle, and are given the exact map co-ordinates - which they can then look up online

Customers shopping at the chain can have their vehicle fitted with a hidden transmitter, which enables owners to locate their vehicle simply by sending a text message from their mobile. The system responds by supplying the longitude and latitude co-ordinates for its location.

Drivers can then use these with any free Internet-based mapping ser÷vice to find the car’s exact location. The clever initiative even allows owners to immobilise the vehicle by text message if they fear it has ended up in the hands of thieves.

The unique package is only available from Motorpoint outlets, and can be installed for a one-off fee of ÷£586. However, if you think that sounds expensive, there’s good news – because the set-up can be transferred to your next vehicle when you decide it’s time for a change.

David Shelton, boss of the supermarket chain, explained: “For most people, a car is likely to be the second biggest purchase of their lifetime, and we are now in a position to provide added peace of mind for a very small amount compared to what owners could expect to shell out if they lost their vehicle.”

Pinpoint is said to be accurate to within 10 metres, and uses GPS technology to keep track of vehicles. The retro-fit device is designed to provide customers with more security than the alarm and immobiliser systems which are standard on most modern cars.
