Sharp new looks at a budget price – Hyundai’s i10 city car

is ready to go. These are the first official shots of the five-door, which will arrive in UK dealers in March, priced from ÷£6,500. Even basic variants are fitted with air-conditioning, electric front windows, central locking and power-steering.

Replacing the ageing Amica, the i10 will be the smallest

model in the firm’s range. It’s 3,565mm long and 1,595mm wide, and can carry five, while power comes from a 66bhp 1.1-litre

petrol engine mated to a manual or automatic gearbox.

Go for the manual, and combined economy is claimed to be in excess of 60mpg, while CO2 emissions are 119g/km. That means road tax of only ÷£35 per year, while the i10 will be exempt from the London Congestion Charge under revisions due in February.

Later in 2008, buyers who want more space will get the chance to buy the larger i20. This replaces the Getz, and targets the likes of the new Ford Fiesta (left) and Honda Jazz. The i20 gets a fresh 1.2-litre petrol engine, as well as 1.4 petrol and 1.5 diesel units, and will debut at the Paris Motor Show next September.
