Speed humps have been "bumped off" by thieves - less than a week after being installed. The black and yellow plastic strips were fixed to the tarmac in Workington, Cumbria, to stop boy racers using the residential street as a racetrack. "Someone must have had the hump to steal them, but they were put in as locals asked for them," said a spokesman.

Small cars with big safety - that"s MINI"s Cooper and the Peugeot 207 CC, which each achieved five stars for occupant protection in the Euro NCAP crash tests.
Both cars, however, got a poor two-star score in pedestrian safety. The MINI received three stars for child protection, but the French car wasn"t tested as rear restraints couldn"t be fitted with the front seats in the normal position.
