THE long-running threat of a breakaway grand prix championship is over, after the car makers competing in F1 signed a new, five-year deal with series supremo Bernie Ecclestone. This supersedes the existing Concorde Agreement that runs out at the end of 2007.

GARY Paffett could be set to return to the DTM German touring car series, having lost out to Chris÷­tian Klien in the race to succeed Anthony Davidson as Honda’s official F1 test driver. The Brit won 2005’s DTM title with Mercedes.
