A mere 500 models have been built, based on the 1966 performance version, which was also launched on the "rent-a-racer" programme. Fans of the original will recognise the black and gold paint, the trademark stripes on the bonnet and Carroll Shelby"s signature on the dash. But a racing performance power pack has now been added to the 4.6-litre V8 powertrain. This includes a cold air and muffler kit, plus engine tuning to boost the output to 325bhp, with a peak torque figure of 448Nm.

The Korean brand is already set to build the car - based on the Cee"d concept - in three bodystyles, and indications are that a performance version is also on the cards.
It will be based on the sporty three-door, due to arrive in December 2007. Sunseekers could be in luck, too, as the firm is also expected to offer a CC-style model with a metal folding roof.
