The company is hoping...

The company is hoping its pioneering R10 TDI racing programme will not only help push the development of more powerful road car engines, but also increase public demand for performance oil-burners.

Having recently made motorsport history by winning the 12 Hours of Sebring in Florida with its derv-powered V12 racer, the company is now looking to exploit its track achievements with the introduction of a range of sporty RS models powered by diesel engines as well as petrols.

"I"m pushing for it," admitted Ulrich Baretzky, Head of Race and Special Engine Development at Audi. "We have spent around 100 years trying to squeeze extra power out of petrol powerplants.

"More than half of all Audis sold are now equipped with a diesel, so I"m confident the time is right for us to start offering our customers a range of even more exciting TDI models."
