The car uses the same 256bhp 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine found in the larger 6 MPS, and will also feature that model"s sporty six-speed manual gearbox. As well as a Subaru Impreza-style bonnet scoop, the 3 MPS will get a beefy bodykit to set it apart from lesser models.

The new Ford Focus Coupe-Cabriolet...

The new Ford Focus Coupe-Cabriolet is set to make its UK debut at the London International Motor Show this July.

The four-seater goes on sale officially in October, and was first seen in a Vignale concept car in Paris 2004. Like many of the latest "CC" class family cars, the Pininfarina-designed Focus features a folding, two-piece metal roof that is claimed to open or close in under 30 seconds.

The car will come with two petrol and one diesel engine options: the 1.6 petrol gets to 62mph in fairly unexciting 13.6 secs, but manages 39.8mpg. whereas the 2.0 litre gets to the same mark in a whisker over 10 seconds, for little fuel hit - 37.6mpg. It will also keep going up to 130mph. The oil-burner is obviously a different kettle of fish, and while we"re still not sure about open-top diesels, the 2.0 turbo diesel looks the pick of the options - it gets to 62mph in the same time as the bigger petrol engine - 10.3 seconds - but returns a massive 47.9mpg, and comes with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox.

Pricing and final specs will be announced at the show.
