Not content with pushing up the price of driving licences (and virtually everything else motoring-related), the Government is now said to be considering "recalling" from us those documents which entitle us to drive. Apparently, the idea is that because we"re responsible people whose details are in the infamous DVLA computer, we"ll be among the first to have identity cards foisted on us.

And they"re off! The Nissan Micra C+C has started to roll off the production line at the Japanese company"s plant in Sunderland, with 20,000 expected to be built annually. It"s the first cabriolet to be made by Nissan in Europe and represents a í‚á£95million investment in the factory. A spokesman said: "The C+C is a very important car for us, as it will boost the brand across Europe." The Karmann roof is being assembled on site.

The new GT-R has been a long time coming, but Nissan is stopping grey importers bringing it to the UK. The supercar went on sale in Japan in December for ÷£36,000, and isn’t due here officially until March 2009, priced around ÷£55,000.

Nissan’s lawyers have written to grey importers warning that shipping in Japanese-spec models and selling them for a profit infringes trademark rights. The company is threatening court action.
