Drivers bored with the way their motor handles will one day be able to change it - and all at the touch of a button. While the display car will be labelled a concept, the 20-inch wheels alone mark it out from the showroom-ready Outlander, set to go on sale in the UK next spring. Power will come from Volkswagen"s 138bhp 2.0-litre TDI engine, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. A 2.4-litre petrol version will arrive in spring 2008.

The new Magellan Maestro...

The new Magellan Maestro 4245 made its world debut in Frankfurt, and is only 17.8mm thick and 82.5mm tall. Yet despite its size, it packs a real punch.

Among its host of functions is an RDS-TMC receiver, complete with a lifetime traffic subscription. That means details of hold-ups are automatically sent to the unit, which then offers you a choice of alternative routes.

The 4245’s 4.3-inch touchscreen display is clear and easy to use, although owners can set voice commands for easier and safer re-routing on the move. One handy feature is that once you have entered your own address, it only needs to be told to “Go home!”, and it will automatically plot the quickest route back to your driveway.
