The super-Swede will...

The super-Swede will be based on the front-wheel-drive Astra platform, and powered by either a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine or a normally aspirated V6. Plans to base both roadsters on the rear-wheel-drive chassis of the US-only Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky have apparently been shelved, because of the mammoth cost of converting it to right-hand drive.

However, small numbers of left-hand-drive Sky models will be made available through Vauxhall dealers. Saab"s new Sonnett is set to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March, while both cars are expected to go on sale early in 2008.
