This 24V cordless Clarke unit is designed with professionals in mind, but it more than meets the needs of everyday motorists. The company claims a fast charge time of one hour – which we found to be accurate – and usefully, the device comes with two battery packs.
It’s heavy, though, tipping the scales at nearly 3kg. Pack it away, with both batteries and accessories, and the whole thing weighs a hefty 7kg. Still, it feels solidly built, and after a one-metre drop test showed no signs of damage. The rubberised grip is comfortable, and the wrench’s reverse action is handy. It has four sockets – 17, 19, 21 and 23mm – each made from chrome vanadium. We found them tricky to attach and remove, though, and they mark easily. The plastic latches on the case appear to be rather flimsy, too.
There’s nothing lacklustre about the performance, however. We tightened a wheel nut to 50Nm, 75Nm and 100Nm, and tackled each setting four times. The 200Nm-rated unit removed them with ease, showing no signs of losing power.
