Naturally, I went shopping when I was in the world"s consumer capital last week. But, by steering clear of US-made goods, I saved more money than usual. And I reckon I got better products than ever: Asian-made Gap jeans, a Japanese-built Yamaha guitar, Korean boots, Mexican beer. I flew home with a non-US airline, too.

The struggling Williams F1 team scored its first point since May’s European GP after Mark Web?ber finished eighth in China. Technical chief Sam Michael said: “The variable conditions aside, the car has definitely improved both in reliability and performance, and we’ll go to the last two races looking to score again.” The outfit believes unreliability this season has cost it about 50 points in the constructors’ championship. Meanwhile, it’s re-signed test driver Narain Karthikeyan.

Its hangover calculator lets motorists work out when they"re safe to drive. Meanwhile, www.awakeltd.info is run by sleep research body Awake and highlights the dangers of driving tired.
