DISABLED drivers are set to benefit under new Blue Badge parking scheme proposals. The Department for Transport wants to extend the program, handing out more badges to people who really need them, ensuring spaces are available close to important amenities and cracking down on those who abuse the system. The last review took place nearly 10 years ago.

THE people’s electric car is here! Renault and Nissan have signed a deal to make the world’s first mass-produced battery-powered vehicle. It will have a range of 60 miles in town and 100 miles on motorways, with a 0-60mph time of 13 seconds. The initial market is Israel, which is setting up charging points to cope with estimated sales of 20,000 units each year.

Drivers shamed over road skills

BRITISH motorists lack the skills to deal with bad weather, claims new research. A survey of 2,000 people by Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands, Surrey, found nearly one-third had lost control of their car in poor conditions, and 45 per cent didn’t know how to deal with a skid. Despite this, 18 per cent said they ignored severe weather warnings and drove on regardless.
