Used buyers will still have to stump up the cash if they want a second-hand Nissan Qashqai, according to the price experts at the VIP Trader Guide.

The car has scored a bullseye for the brand. To meet demand, 180 new jobs were created at the Sunderland plant where the SUV-styled hatch is built.

Now, the sales success is set to continue on used forecourts. “What was meant to be a niche, cross-sector model has quickly become a fleet and retail favourite,” said the latest guide.

The earliest examples of the Qashqai are now 12 months old, and second-hand prices start from about ÷£12,500. That’s enough for a 1.6-litre petrol model, while the 1.5 dCi diesel starts at ÷£13,500. However, for every such success story there are plenty of failures. And the experts at Trader Guide have singled out the unloved Vaux÷­hall Signum, Fiat Croma and Mercedes B-Class as unsuccessful specialist vehicles which now rep÷­resent decent value second-hand.
