Ever since the Japanese maker took the wraps off the striking Civic Concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March, excitement about the car"s impending launch has been building. Want to save fuel and cut down your CO2 emissions? The DTI has just unveiled the “Act On CO2” initiative to encourage car buyers to purchase more fuel-efficient motors. Auto Express has conducted its own research to find Britain’s 100 most economical motors.
The tests were conducted on public roads and take into account traffic conditions, weather, types of road and all the other variables that influence your mpg. Ten classes of cars were tested, from city cars to SUVs and family saloons to MPVs.
German cars filled the top three places in the compact executive rundown, with the BMW 320d taking top position with returns of 42.5mpg. Diesel versions of the Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class both narrowly failed to better 40mpg. Fourth and fifth spots went to the Swedish Volvo S40 and British Jaguar X-Type respectively.
