By far the most extreme...
By far the most extreme model on display was the Suzuki Swift X Sport. It"s a three-door Swift with special gullwing doors, a six-point roll cage and a huge rally-inspired rear wing, as well as a range of carbon fibre body parts and three-tone paintwork.
While the display car...
While the display car will be labelled a concept, the 20-inch wheels alone mark it out from the showroom-ready Outlander, set to go on sale in the UK next spring. Power will come from Volkswagen"s 138bhp 2.0-litre TDI engine, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. A 2.4-litre petrol version will arrive in spring 2008.
The Japanese-spec model - driven by Auto Express in Issue 882 - is already on sale in its home market. However, the European variant will feature suspension adjustments and unique front-end styling.
Based on the same platform as the next-generation Lancer, the fresh Outlander will be designed primarily for on-road use, although it will have all-wheel drive with a locking centre differential to tackle mild off-roading. The cabin will be more practical than its predecessor"s, with room for seven. And, using the clever "Hide&Seat" system, the third row of chairs folds flat into the floor, giving the Mitsubishi practicality to rival an MPV.
