While the Volvo"s nose...

While the Volvo"s nose is carried over directly from the saloon, the complex coup탩-cabriolet mechanism has forced engineers to make some styling changes at the rear. The cabin will offer more space for back seat passengers than many rivals. The new model will be unveiled for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but won"t go on sale in the UK until February next year.

It"s called the Nissan...

It"s called the Nissan Urge, and is billed as a radical design project which could open up new avenues for the Japanese firm if it went into production. The lightweight, motorcycle-inspired machine would slot into the compact sports car sector alongside models such as the Lotus Elise and Vauxhall VX220. The roadster has a small, high-revving engine sending power to the rear wheels via a six-speed transmission.

With a host of styling...

With a host of styling cues taken from the existing 3 and 6 models, the people carrier concept - called the MX-Flexa - points the way to a future replacement vehicle for the Mazda MPV, which has struggled to find buyers in the UK.

A more radical look, coupled with sliding rear doors and a spacious interior, could help tempt customers out of rival machines. However, unlike the current MPV, the concept features only six chairs instead of seven. We"ll have to wait until the Geneva event to see exactly how they all fit together, but it"s highly likely that the MX-Flexa will come with flat-folding chairs and boast lots of room for luggage. Alongside the MX-Flexa, Mazda will take the wraps off the MX-Micro Sport concept model, which hints at a high-performance version of the 2 supermini, as well as a 3 saloon powered by a 1.6-litre diesel engine.
